MAKE THESE ROOMS UNIQUE

I love unexpected design elements that really set a space apart. Take a look at your home and what spaces you’re comfortable taking a design risk to make these rooms unique. This could be a room that visitors don’t typically see, or a space that is occupied the most. This is also an opportunity to incorporate color and patterns or murals that you wouldn’t use in the rest of your home. Below are some tips on how to select your space and make them unique.

SELECT YOUR SPACE

The best places to take a chance in, are powder rooms, laundry room, closets, and basements. Let’s start with the powder room. This is one of my favorite spaces to design since there’s space for a wow moment and to be overwhelming. With powder rooms being typically smaller in size and closed rooms, you can take advantage of those elements to make these rooms unique. A way to do this is by adding large murals and lots of contrasting color. A custom mural that is measured and printed to fit the exact dimensions of the space is going to create that wow factor. In addition to wallpaper, add in unique and different lighting. Something you wouldn’t usually go for in a main living area, but adds a depth to what can be a closed in, boring space. Now let’s add in the details.

ADD IN THE DETAILS

On top of the wallpaper, make sure to add artwork. Yes, I said artwork. Again this is a space you can design with no limit. Of course you want everything to work together, but unexpected details are what is going to make this space pop. Don’t forget the accessories. A unique and fun rug, candles, decorative towels, trinket boxes, tissue boxes, etc. Make sure the elements work together.

MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WORKS TOGETHER

Here are some tips to make sure what you’re selecting will go well together, while also being daring. Use similar colors from one element to the next. If you’re selecting a wallpaper with a variety of different colors and neutrals, take the neutral and make that a primary color in the floor mat. With hardware, lighting, and accessories, make these all the same finish so there’s not too much trying to work against each other. If you have a lot of bright colors, pick a neutral or a wood tone to balance the space and incorporate that finish in a handful of items. Below are some of our favorite product resources.
